Hey everyone,

So, I know bitcoin is the biggest altcoin in the world right now, and I am also aware that it's not even worth mining anymore unless you have some real funding for it (need proper hardware, need to be part of a good mining pool, etc). I am however interested in some "low hanging fruit" altcoins that are possible/feasible to get with Free Software. MY laptop has a Intel graphics card if that helps in some case. Also, I am aware that Litecoin for example is not as CPU/GPU intensive but rather requires more memory... So I guess it should be possible to find other alternatives that are currently easier to get my hands on some.
The reasons for this are, in no particular order:

-Want to try it out because it got my interest;
-Want to risk getting rich (like some people who invested on Bitcoin earlier on);
-Would like to have some amount of "money" in case I ever get on the wrong side of the law and need to have some other ways of paying for stuff;
-Want to see what other crypto currencies are out there and what they are like;

So, please let me know if you do any sort of "mining" or whatever, and how to do it with Trisquel 8. Thanks.

Mining bitcoins using a laptop? Hmmm.. It's like mining gold using chopsticks. Good luck on your adventure of time and (electric) energy waste.

I'm in by the way, let me know if you need a partner, I can contribute a 386DX laptop, very powerful and eco-friendly..

As I suggested on another separate topic here, try the below cryptocurrency. It is much easier to mine, and you can get a block reward at the press/click of a button. And I checked GitHub, it's supposed to be Libre.

Actually never mind...it's not mining at all. It's just a demo with a faucet

I don't want BITcoins. I am looking at other altcoins that are still new, maybe some low level stuff, that is possible (for now) to do with a laptop. I don't want something that would take a month to get a coin, lol. Just looking to leave the laptop overnight and see some progress in the morning or so... Like I said, it's more about the technical and social perspective than the financial one (I am not looking to get rich!)

As an example I saw someone on the net talking about renting your harddrive space in exchange for a sort of altcoin. I don't feel like doing so right now, but it would be an example.
