"US entertainment industry to Congress: make it legal for us to deploy rootkits, spyware, ransomware and trojans to attack pirates!"
Pretty scary stuff indeed. Definately something many won't have to hopefully worry about on a fully libre distro like Trisquel. :-P
To attack 'pirates' only?
Who would trust the MPAA and RIAA to only do that?
If that bill goes though, I think their servers would get DDOS'd.
In case somebody isn't familiar with this case
You should be concerned about these things on proprietary platforms even if this particular instance doesn't negatively impact you right now. The more people that accept these types of things on proprietary platforms the more difficult it gets for users of free software.

Restrict, control, lock, media industries is always trying to impose
their prior right, whether by legal or illegal means.
This is a constant problem in this industry, with sometimes related
ramifications (RIAA SACEM, DADVSI, EUCD, DMCA, SOPA, PIPA, ACTA,DRM,
EME, etc.) and a common purpose, to limit our rights...
Librement.
