Need to use bootable USB with same version of Trisquel as the one trying to fix?

Going to try to fix boot issue after upgrading from T11 to T12. Should I use a bootable USB with T12 on it (which I don't have yet), or can I use one with T11 on it? If it can be T11, does it matter whether it's the latest one of that? Have a bootable USB with T11 Abrowser 126, at the end it was up to Abrowser 148. Theoretically, could one even use a bootable USB with T9 or 10 to try to fix something with T12? Is there a best practice regarding this, or it doesn't matter at all?

It depends whether the system you are upgrading is carried by a European swallow or by an African swallow.
A Norwegian Blue, on the other leg, can swallow any version that has not ceased to be supported.
