I have installed trisquel into a usb stick. The first boot, no touchpad, in my Asus X540SA. Then the other boots that I try I just can get terminal screen. The first time I remember to get to the Gnome Desktop. I don't want to delete my Windows 10 Home before getting this two things working fine.
Old kernel from 2014 maybe?

Cheers from Panama, Central America.

Have you ever used any other gnu/linux distribution or is Trisquel the first one you ever try?

About your touchpad... A quick search provided some useful informations: https://askubuntu.com/questions/823068/touch-pad-not-detected-correctly-asus-x540sa

It might be that using a newer kernel version your touchpad works just fine... Trisquel is fully free software and lack even blobs from it. That can well be the issue you're facing...

I have used Ubuntu,Backtrack, etc.; but not in this new laptop, but an old thinkpad I had.
What about getting Gnome just the first time? Now I come just into a dark screen and I call the terminal via shortcut Alt+F1.

By the way, I have ethernet connection fine. I can use all internet commands fine like wget, ping, etc.

Cheers Jules!

You can update the kernel (responsible for hardware support)... but that requires installing Trisquel on the disk first. Or you can try Trisquel 8: http://jenkins.trisquel.info/makeiso/iso/
