Thank you for the new version. I have been a Ubuntu user for ages and this has made it really easy to switch to a fully free distro. I can't wait for 4.0 which if based on ubuntu 10.04 will have nouveau drivers by default. Let me know how I can help you! I can bug test, donate money, help with documentation, write letters to people or just cheerlead.

thanks...

By all means, report any bugs you find by using the "Issues" hyperlink in the right-hand margin of this website.

If you know Spanish or Galician, PLEASE translate as much of the existing documentation as you can.

At some point there will be both an online merchandise store and a donation button, as I have been informed on IRC.

Mention us to users of the major GNU/Linux distros!

We might stay with the -nv driver in 4.0, because using the Noveau driver for 4.0 sadly requires a non-free binary blob (blame NVidia), and Noveau is still in the experimental phase.

1) As for translating documentation I have made some modifications to the Spanish translation regarding repositories. The thing is that the english version -which seems more up to date- refers to the "extras" repo, which no longer exists -correct me if I am wrong-. I think there should be some sort of "official" documentation (in Spanish, Galego, English or whatever other language) which may later be translated into other languages. I would delete, for example, the reference to the "extras" repositories, but I may be wrong in doing that. The same applies to the reference (sort of "accusation") to Ubuntu stating they include non-free software in "main" though they declare the opposite: is that what the Trisquel project wants to say? As for me it is fine, but I think there should be unmodifiable official documentation, particularly relating to technical issues, which we may later help to translate.

2) I read sometime ago in Venenux forum that "nouveau" included a proprietary plugin, is it the case with the current "nouveau" driver or will it apply only to future releases of this driver -which I use because it allows dualhead support while "nv" seems not to-?

Please, go ahead.

Where are they declaring that huge lie?

I'm not sure about this. As you proved, "official" documentation can be
wrong -I wrote the page referring to the extras repo component and it
went outdated- and it can be fixed by anyone. I write all the docs in
English, but I think anyone should be able to improve them.

The nouveau driver used to rely on a non-free firmware file, but IFAIK
it does no more. Also, I understand that driver comes with the kernel
now, and it will get deblobbed if needed by the linux-libre scripts.

A wiki format suits our documentation best, trust me. I am frequently working on all parts of the documentation to keep it as accurate and up-to-date as possible. Thank you for alerting me of change that needed to be made to that particular page. I have made the needed corrections. In the future, I will remove old versions from that list when they have been phased out of support.

Both to quidam and AndrewT, thanks for your answers. As for my reference to what was said about Ubuntu it has not momentum at all, I just wanted to be sure that what the wiki said was/is endorsed by the project before translating it -in that particular case I had already translated it anyway, though I see it has been later modified in both languages-. As for the nouveau driver being free, that is good news.

Regards.

noveau is free software, but needs a proprietary blob in the kernel :(
