Hello everyone;
I've recently been switching over ALL of my devices to a FOSS platform. One of the last things I need to do is switch over my router to something like OpenWRT. I have a few questions first though, has anyone ever used OpenWRT and if so did you like it? Were there any issues with the install or things that you couldnt get working? Secondly, I assume that by the name, and my lack of finding a liscense, that OpenWRT is Libre, though I am not 100% sure on that... If you know for sure please let me know (it'd be nice to tell my friends that I was the one to find a FOSS solution). Lastly, I hear that it can be used on an X86 machine, has anyone had experience with that?

I run OpenWRT on my router, and it is easy to use. It is 100% FOSS, so you don't have to worry about that. I'm not sure how well it works on an x86 machine, but according to their website it does work.

I don't think that OpenWRT is completely free. I only know that LibreWRT
is 100% free. [1]

OpenWRT is 100% free by itself. The FSF doesn't endorse it because it doesn't fit their guidelines. Namely, you can easily install non-free software on it.
None of the WiFi routers can be used in complete freedom (blob-free) with OpenWRT. That's why the LibreWRT project was created/forked. The only "real" fully-free router currently available, running without any non-free parts, is the Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH v1 (first revision only!).
MYSELF
There is a store nearby to me, where they sell that specific router,
Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH v1, knowing this, I will keep researching before buying one. The model is Buffalo WZR-HP-G300 nh2- READING THE ARTICLE non of the above is supported.

Thank you OralFloss, I was hoping that it was. It'd be nice to see a router with this on ThinkPenguin :/ I didnt really want to buy a new router for it so I thought I'd give X86 a try, I'll post back if I do end up doing it.
what about DD-WRT
LibreWRT seems to be a FSF recommended distro (based on openWRT)
