Playing .swf files

Are there any other alternatives in the repository or other free software (apart from Gnash) to play .swf files?
Maybe Lightspark?
Apart from that, I don't think so.
There's also Shumway, which you can install as an extension in Abrowser.
are most .swf files not non-free software?
assuming .swf files are adobe flash programs
They're just as bad as typical web pages, with the additional problem of typically requiring the proprietary Flash player. That is, they have software embedded into them (ActionScript code), which typically doesn't come with a license. (Also, I don't know if it's possible to modify or even extract the ActionScript code from a SWF file, so a libre Flash animation would have to come with the .fla source code.)
but don’t flash programs use action-script?
isn’t this the same as a non-free python, lua or javascript program
that you cant view the source code off?
Thanks for your comments, everyone. I thought I could choose which program to use when playing .swf files, as the only option I get is Gnash. I have installed Lightspark but I don't get the option to use it. I tried Shumway but it didn't work.
