I cannot install this tool because pip is blocked on Trisquel because of the access it gives to not free software. I have managed to curl pip, which allowed me to install OpenVPN but not as root. Does anyone know if there is a workaround? Would it be possible to just make the python code required for this tool? Apologies if there is already a thread on this.

You can search the site (including the forum) using the text box in the upper-right corner of the page. Searching "protonvpn", you find among the top results a recent thread with that post: https://trisquel.info/forum/best-easiest-installation-vpn#comment-148552

Thanks for this. I saw that thread but wondered if anyone had any more recent info on this.

The method in that thread still works, I just did it about a week ago. I prefer the protonvpn-cli package though, as it gives greater control over preventing DNS leaks.

On the github page there are some instructions for installing protonvpn-cli using guix: https://github.com/ProtonVPN/linux-cli/blob/master/README.md

Maybe you could try installing the guix package manager per chaosmonk's instructions here: https://trisquel.info/en/forum/how-free-gnulinux-xxx#comment-151168

And then
guix install protonvpn-cli

This seems like a really neat solution, thanks. I really like the look of Guix as well. Glad I do not have to give up on protonVPN just yet.
