This thread is continuing another subthread in https://trisquel.info/es/forum/what-de-do-you-prefer-trisquel-8?page=1 #94
Interesting:
"For other works, well, it is not the "free software" philosophy. But most
"free software" proponents insist on the freedom to to non-commercially
redistribute the works. For those who only insist on that freedom, even
CC BY-NC-ND is OK."
For other works: NC and even CC BY-NC-ND is OK.
Thank you.
I would like to edit this:
For other works: NC and for those who only insist on that freedom even CC BY-NC-ND, is OK.
FSF's answers:
- Recommendations (for authors): https://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-recommendations.html
- Freedom-respecting licenses (for the public): https://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html
Both pages start with software and then treat documentation and "other data/works".
As a software foundation the FSF's recommendations for software and software documentation are sound. It is perhaps best not to follow their recommendations for non-software works as it is outside of the scope of a software foundation. For things outside of the scope of software and software documentation there is the free culture movement. I encourage people to look to that for guidance as opposed to a software foundation trying to offer guidance in areas that are outside its scope.
Ok, I think I am not explaining it right. I am talking as an user who wants to personalise things respectfully.
For example:
1.What kind of images (and other works) could I use for a desktop background, and things into the Trisquel OS of a computer?
2.And for an avatar on internet?
3.And if I write something into GNUsocial or a blog?
I am ashamed to ask, but I have questions like that.
Thank you.

You can use whatever you want, mate. Despite what some of our detractors like to think, we are not a religion or a cult. If you aren't comfortable with non-libre images being on your desktop, then don't put non-libre images on your desktop. But no one is going to cry bloody murder if you have a picture of Star Wars as your background.
I actually think it's unethical to deny anyone the four freedoms, regardless of the type of work. But I still read/watch/etc non-libre cultural works; I'm not willing to shut myself off from all of modern culture because of my opposition to copyright. And even if I was, just like with proprietary software, I wouldn't ascribe blame to people who read/watch/etc non-libre cultural works. The blame is on those who forbid people from exercising the four freedoms (i.e. the copyright holder, usually a publisher).
