Swapped keys on ISO Apple USB aluminum keyboard

A computer on which I just installed Trisquel (imac 13,2) has an Apple USB aluminum keyboard with ISO layout, French labels. There is a bug that the key right of the left shift key (<> on the lablel) is swapped with the key above tab (@#). This bug is mentioned at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/214786, with discussion spanning from 2008 to 2020. I looked in the "Options" for the keyboard properties, I could not find any for this (there is one for the issue that the numpad is not behaving as numpad, it fixes the problem).
One of the participants to the discussion, in 2019, confirmed that the solution indicated in "Correcting swapped keys and wrong keymaps for international (non-US) keyboards" in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AppleKeyboard works, so I tried and it also works on this computer.
However, given the number of options available and how long ago this was found, I am a little surprised that there is none for that. Is anyone aware whether there is some option in menus for this? Is there any development, in MATE or somewhere else, that could fix that?
Note: this looks specific to ISO keyboards, perhaps there are Apple USB aluminium keyboards that are neither US nor ISO, not sure whether they have other issues.

Thanks, I created an issue there: https://github.com/mate-desktop/libmatekbd/issues/89
