I've been using Trisquel 7.0 LTS on My Desktop PC since 2014 and recently planning to upgrade to Trisquel 8.0 LTS. I want to know inputs about the stability and performance or satisfactory in general from the community users running Flidas. I know that we have switched to MATE Desktop Environment from GNOME Flashback. Is there anything I should bother about? Also I think fresh install would be better or how should I upgrade the Belenos?

It's been great in my experience.

The change in desktop environment does complicate the upgrade progress. Before upgrading, make sure that the 'trisquel' metapackage is installed, or you'll be missing components of MATE after the upgrade.

A fresh install is always safest, but I think that as long as you have 'trisquel' installed the upgrade should go okay. Certain PPAs can cause problems. Do you have any PPAs installed?

Just accomplished fresh/clean installation of Trisquel GNU Linux 8.0 LTS (Flidas)! Looking very nice! Great selection of pre-installed applications! Control Center is also very cool! Thinking to donate!

Btw, noticed that applications' name are changed i.e Nautilus > Caja, Gedit > Pluma, Evince > Atril etc. Are theses changes in names only or packages are really different?

It's because the MATE Project renamed them: https://mate-desktop.org/

MATE is continuation of GNOME 2 so they renamed them so that people don't think they're still GNOME. Another project calling themselves GNOME and using all the same names might be confusing into making people think that this other project really is GNOME you know? So are they different? Sure, I guess because MATE's not GNOME. :)
