Subject says it all, just FYI.
Trisquel 4.0 (Taranis) for the desktop also reaches End of Life on May 9 2013 but remains supported on servers until 2015.
Also, Trisquel 5.5 (Brigantia) reaches End of Life on the same day.

good to know thanks. time to actively seek upgrade.
good to know thanks. time to actively seek upgrade.
There was some trouble with the 5.5 -> 6.0 upgrade earlier. Is there a howto on the subject? Is it safe now?
I remember strong recommendation to install all updates before upgrade and also something about removing multiarch? Maybe something else as well?
I recall the advice being to apply all available updates and disable multiarch. As far as I know that advice is still valid.
ok i better find out what multi arch is.
updating before moving up was always the case when I used ubuntu.
I believe you need to comment out the line in /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg.d/multiarch
(i.e. add a # in front of it.)
Or delete the file, or move it (e.g. multiarch.backup).
"Multiarch" has to do with installing 32-bit applications in a 64-bit environment. AFAIK, this is only useful to provide compatibility with non-free 32-bit stuff (like Adobe Flash or some Windows software to be run on Wine).
Multiarch is useful for Replicant development (the emulator used has
bugs preventing it from being built natively), for running free programs
that are very difficult to build (functional programming language
compilers usually can be compiled only using themselves, not all have
upstream-provided x86_64 binaries), and for testing your own programs.
There are more uses of 32-bit binaries on 64-bit systems (e.g. chroots,
some fast virtualization methods or small LiveCDs supporting chrooting
into 64-bit installs or running on 32-bit CPUs) not involving multiarch
nor nonfree software.
Hello All,
My /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg.d folder is empty. Never seemed to have anything in it.
I tried the do-upgrade comand and after a prompt to change the source list to which I said yes it comes up with:

If I use the update manager it ofers me to go to 6.0 but it then says
***********
Authentication failed
Authenticating the upgrade failed. There may be a problem with the network or with the server.
******************
I then went to the settings button on the upgrade manager and on the first tab chose the main server and checked again for updates. I now had loads of updates that needed to be done. I'll keep you posted when it is done.
RedIRIS was a Trisquel mirror but they apparently decided to pull the plug. No idea if this was properly communicated to Trisquel.
That would explain why I get the update manager to say:
***********
Authentication failed
Authenticating the upgrade failed. There may be a problem with the network or with the server.
******************
again. So is there another fix?
The link does say in spanish that they have pulled the plug but just directs to the trisquel.info site.
ok I went to the server and instead of main I went to other... and there I chose the other spanish server that is not redris. Checked for updates and then tried to install the 6.0. Same authentication failed.
I did choose best server and it gave me the best option.
I tried the france server same result.
Sadly I ran out of time today. Please let me know if any of you have some clues.
Try the main server?
If you are using an NVidia GPU, I would currently not consider upgrading to Trisquel 6.0 if you rely on 3D acceleration.
Disable the on-board graphics first and you will probably be OK.
3D acceleration via Novueau worked in the fresh installation as well as after the update in another installation (AMD E-350 plus GeForce 9500GT).
System had on-board GPU enabled and I can hardly see a reason why this should influence any dedicated GPU. The issue seems to be related to my hardware.
I will see if this is related to older GeForce cards if I update the system of my daughter (NForce 2 motherboard with onboard GPU plus dedicated GeForce 4400.
At least for those with newer GeForce cards (like the 9500GT sold by Think Penguin) I would consider updating to Trisquel 6.0 ok, while I am still unshure about older NVidia cards.
The netbook does not have nvidia graphics. The laptop does not seem to have nvidia graphics card other at least I have not installed third party software.
Tried the main server same problem.
I do not know how to disable the on-board graphics.
Thanks for your help. Please let me know anything else I can try.
What are your sources?

Tried again the main server with the netbook.
Same thing only in spanish.
