is trisquel not worth to mention in prism-break.org?

i followed an forum in prism-break, where the argument for replacing it with gnewsense was, that trisquel is based on ubuntu and so the risk for security leaks and so on is to high...
is that true ?
in my opinion it could be the most advancend fsf distro, but with these issues i wouldn't use it...

Yea sux that it doesn't list it directly but read in the notes: "GNU/Linux has a much larger community..." http://prism-break.org/en/categories/gnu-linux/#operating-systems

Why would they remove Trisquel from that list and still have Fedora? Doesn't Fedora include non-free kernel and firmware like standard Ubuntu? If they are also worried about a corporation that has bigger interests at hand, how are they ignoring Red Hat? Fedora is the testing ground for their future Enterprise Linux distros.

Forget about Fedora and look at openSUSE: this distribution with quite a lot of proprietary software (not only in the kernel) is edited by Novell, which is Microsoft's number 1 partner in the GNU/Linux world (since 2006)... and Microsoft is PRISM's oldest partner of the NSA (since 2007). How can PRISM Break recommend openSUSE and not Trisquel because it has (entirely transparent because free software only) links with Ubuntu? That makes no sense.

Anyway, I guess PRISM Break is mostly positive: many users seeking to harden the work of the national intelligence agencies have certainly found some answers in the (mostly) free software list that the sites recommends.

Trisquel removes all known privacy invasive features of Ubuntu. If
you find or hear of new ones, file a bug.

Prism Break had a lynching mob for Ubuntu for their privacy invasive
features. And by the well known feature of such 'justice' derivatives
were caught by contagion - just like a medieval court. There is no
evidence to support their decision wrt derivatives other than
paranoia.

Don't worry about it.

I stopped referring people to prism-break.org a long time ago. I don't think it's something to take seriously anymore. At this point, I don't think it's even a good source of information for beginners, which I thought was the whole point of it to begin with; it's all over the place and hard to read, yet still horribly incomplete. Who's it supposed to be for at this point?

By now I'll no longer refer to PRISM Break anymore.

It's enough.

[Since I don't have a GitHub account, ] I sent nylira an e-mail
suggesting to recommend free operating systems first, along with
many other things that I can't remember, but this decision is
enough for my little patient being.

Best regards, ADFENO.
Have a nice day.

That site sucks anyways and it hasn't been a good source of info. Its past its time anyways and time to shut it down and move on.

I wouldn't recommend gnewsense over Trisquel due to the fact that gnewsense is so damn old. Trisquel 7 is way overdue, but at least 6 (based off of Ubuntu 12.04) is still relevant and you can grab the 3.13 kernel from the repos.

Yea that website could be better, but i was just concerned about the Trisquel issue.

Trisquel doesn't work with Windows (i still need it) and gnewsense is the most up to date listed on fsf distro, which is working with my hardware.
I hope it will get fixed with Trisquel 7..., which also doesn't work for me, even without Windows.

What do you mean when you say it doesn't work with Windows? I've only got 7 running in a Virtual Machine to test it, but I have no problem with my Windows/Trisquel 6 dual boot.

I posted what worked for me in that thread. Maybe it will work for you, too.

I don't think any distro should be considered as "prism breaking". I mean, we know that the kernel Linux is too damn big and bloated anyway to be read by someone and say "ok, this code is free of backdoors and it has no security bugs". Even the libre version (which is better than the vanilla version) is impossible to audit in such a simple way. Linus has demonstrated that govs and companies have tried to insert backdoors in the kernel so we must assume they did. BSD distros have also had their share of "rumors" appearing. I mean... at this point, I care about security and privacy, but I have to assume that if a government, with all big companies in its pocket, wants to get in my computer they will. Sure, there is a difference between "using gmail, facebook and windows in a txt cpu" and "using linux without blobs, using tor and encryption everywhere, not having social accounts, and running only free software". The difference is only "first person gets hacked by a kid in the street second person gets hacked by government". Which is enough to give me some peace of mind right now. We should fight for a more free and open society, yes, but for now, we are better off this way.

One question, if we want Trisquel to be seen as a serious alternative in terms of security and privacy, shouldn't Trisquel come with stuff like tor, grsecurity, pidgin+otr, secure-delete etc already installed? I mean, as I said in another thread, I took a lot of good ideas from TAILS. Having little things such as secure-delete and otr installed by default can really make a difference.

btw windows sucks anyway...

I think Tor is only powerful on a live system.
Because the chance getting a virus trough the tor network is pretty high, only because of using it. The exits are government controlled and with that they try to make your ip visible, or hack into it. That chance is getting lower, if more persons using it.

tongue in cheek mode = on

Prism-break sort of reminds me of that sketch in Monty Python's The Life of Brian
(edited to remove course language)

BRIAN: Are you the Judean People's Front?

REG: Judean People's Front? We're the People's Front of Judea! Judean People's Front. Meh.

BRIAN: Can I... join your group?

REG: No.

This is an old issue with Trisquel and Prism Break. He doesn't even care. As it has been said before, just because he thinks Ubuntu is "spyware" (which can be turned off see fixubuntu.com by an EFF advocate), he therefore concluded that Trisquel must be because it's based on Ubuntu. Nothing but FUD! Someone who claims to promote free software but promotes the non-free stuff.
