Trisquel Seven!!!

Our fearless Rubén is giving a talk at the OpenEdJAM conference in San Antonio Texas this weekend starting Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 20:45 UTC/GMT
http://openedjam.org/sessions/trisquel-70-release-reintroducing-trisquel-edu
You can use this link to convert that date/time to your local time zone:
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Rub%C3%A9n%27s+Talk&iso=20140726T2045&am=45
Those interested in finally getting an answer to the question of "When will Trisquel 7 be released" should tune in and pay attention!!!
I understand that a live stream is supposed to be available but their website doesn't seem to have details just yet.
And here's an easy countdown timer to the event:
http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?p0=1440&iso=20140726T2045&msg=Rub%C3%A9n%27s%20Talk
I shall be watching!
Thanks!
thx!
After your great job, it seems we can already try Trisquel 7.0.
As somebody who starts from running Debootstrap, for me a release happens when the repos are up.
And the repos have been up, alive, and kicking for months now :)
It's still being worked on, even in the airport on the way to the talk, and is not the final released version.
I'm trying to generate some buzz here people but whatever, detractors.
What detractors? (Hopefully you weren't referring to me!)
The livestream will happen at http://www.openedjam.org/livestream
Woot!
Thanks!
Woot!
Will it use Systemd?
From a speed perspective I think it should.
It will use the same thing Ubuntu 14.04 uses, which I'm pretty sure is Upstart still. Ubuntu's plan is to migrate to systemd, though, so I guess Ubuntu 16.04, and therefore Trisquel 8, will probably use it.
Never mind, I thought Systemd was in Trusty's default repos - from the looks of it, it actually isn't. My bad.
So 2 years it officially is before I can do a systemd-nspawn again! :)
Could one please point out what that triskel thing is about? Is it a version based on KDE?
triskel is just a metapackage that will install a minimally functional KDE on top of your Trisquel install. Unfortunately, there is no triskel iso. I think that a netinstall with triskel + kde-full + kde-standard is the only way to get a pure and complete KDE Trisquel install.
The suggestion, below, should work; same goes for any other de (Mate,
XFCE, pure GNOME, whatever). Maybe, get a basic net install (no de)
working, first?

Fourtounately, there is a triskel 7 iso and hopefully will also be a image with the final release.

I will be watching too! I've been using Trisquel 7 since March and I'm quite happy with it. I've been using it for the building and development of libreCMC.
"I've been using it for the building and development of libreCMC." - Way cool man, way cool! (=
Good luck with that, I will be one of your first testers. Since I am stuck with this s*it.. (see attachment).
Neither I tried admission into https://www.turris.cz/en/ project nor am I able to grab a https://openwireless.org/ compatible box.
I'm glad that you have an interest in libreCMC. Sadly, we can't support any ADSL+ modems / routers due to the non-free firmware that they need.
In regards to the OpenWireless project, there are some talks with the libreCMC project where we may include some components that they use. Sadly, their current images have non-free parts, but I am quite supportive of the idea of giving free wifi access to people.
If you want a router with libreCMC, ThinkPenguin will soon be selling one that will include libreCMC along with a nice source code CD (includes libreCMC + u-boot bootloader).
Thank you for the info. Yup, Chris had a separate thread on libreCMC before..
I'm looking forward to hearing the news!
I've been anticipating 7 for some time, especially with news of a newer version of Pitivi in the mix.

I wasn't aware of these developments. Thanks for the links!
Due to an unstable network connection at the site Rubén's talk will not be streamed live. A recording will be provided later.
Thanks! Hope the best for him and the Trisquel community!
Does anyone, perhaps from the event, have some news?
Are we going green?
That would be fun. Many of us former momochromers started our lives with green, although mine was amber. ;-)
Looking good!
I'm still having problems on Aqemu but about to reboot the lappy to a live USB stick; can I just hit the "install" button now if all goes well or will there be a different .iso for the official release?
There will be a new .iso for the 7.0 official release; if you install
one of the pre-releases, and regularly do upgrades, you'll have the new
Trisquel 7.
I'm on Trisquel 6, and I just want to make sure I understand this correctly.
So, if I install a pre-release, then when 7.0 is officially released I can upgrade from within my pre-release install? That is, instead of a installing from another new ISO? Is that correct?
And also, is the following link to pre-releases?
http://devel.trisquel.info/makeiso/iso/
When 7 is officially out, you can upgrade your prerelease, and you'll
have 7. The link to the development iso is:
OK, thanks! So I have another question too—I'm still a bit new with this.
Some time ago, I managed to install Trisquel 6.0 on my Macbook Air, dual boot, via reEFit.
Similarly, I'd like to install a pre-release of Trisquel on an older MacBook Pro, i.e., MacBookPro5,1 with a 2.66 Intel Core 2 Duo.
Which version of the pre-release should I install?
I would say you should go with the latest release - the 29th of June release.
It works fine on a Core 2 Quad PC and the i5 MacBook that I'm posting this from (in shame I must admit). Not sure about dual booting mind you since I simply demolished the OSX partition to get it on here. I would assume that it will work fine.
Jabjabs, OK. Cool, thanks!
So, because I'm still a rookie at this, I have another question; should I go with the 944M "triskel_7.0-20140629_i686.iso" version? I'm assuming that the "i" signifies "Intel."
Also, I understand the Apple shame. I remember being mocked when having an Apple in public. Boy have times changed. Now I shame Apple with two strips of Duct tape—it marks an "X" over their glowing icon.
Also, both my "DuctBooks" are used. While they may not be fully FREE, they serve as great transitional computers. Plus, a used computer is way better for the environment. Come to think of it, there are so many Apples out their...perhaps there should be a movement for modifying the hardware, e.g., building FREE from the recycled.
i686 means 32 bit, amd64 means 64 bit (both can be used on Intel, AMD and others)
I'm glad I asked! Thanks.
I covered mine up with a Copyleft sticker :P There is a whole variety of FSF/EFF stickers as well. A lot of people are somewhat shocked to see Joni Ives monolithic creation covered in these thing.

I can see that hardware has been reported as usable in h-node.com. Is it
a laptop. Please report it as such in h-node if it is.

i have a insert on h-node :) hi
gennaro
http://h-node.org/wiki/page/en/asus-x54c-i3-processor-quad-core-trisquel-7-0
That's not how you add it. You have to add it here. It's already there at http://h-node.org/notebooks/view/en/704/X54C. The video card is said not to work with 3d acceleration, but I have the same card in my desktop and it works, so change it if 3d acceleration works. Also change the distro and kernel tested.
EDIT: And remove the wiki page, it's unreadable.
