I finally upgraded from Trisquel 10 to 11. I prepared for a fresh install (backed everything up!), but decided to try the upgrade offered in the system updater. The upgrade went smoothly and took less than an hour.
So far there is only one problem--there are no Indicators on the bottom panel. All are missing. Before I try to replace them individually, is there something global I can try?
Thanks.
In my experience, full system upgrades will reset panels.
Assuming you are using the standard Trisquel edition with MATE, first thing I would do is to visit MATE Tweak in System > Preferences > Look & Feel (or from the Control Center) and select either one of the default panel layouts, or a saved custom layout from before upgrade if there is any, and see if it can be restored.
I usually make a fresh install, and either use a screenshot from the previous version in order to remember what was where, or simply add application launchers as I start using them on the new version.
Thanks Prospero, but I now have bigger issues. The system is unstable and crashing when I visit certain websites. Multiple Zombie processes running, multiple instances of "agent" too. The crash causes the session to fail and requires a new login. I will try a clean install as originally planned and if necessary a new OS. By the way, I was visiting news about Pope Francis, not hacker or pron sites. Go figure...
There have been several reports of Abrowser (and other apps) crashing on Trisquel 11 because of an xorg related problem with Intel graphics on some machines.
The workaround mentioned in this thread seems to have worked for many users:

Well, here is a nightmare. I had to log on to this forum on my Pixelbook! (At least it is running Linux Firefox ESR.)
The keyboard on my Thinkpad X200 is apparently not working correctly. I could not log into the forum because my manually-entered password didn't work, But I tried the Pixelbook and got right in. So there is clearly a problem with Trisquel 11.
I am not sure what is going on with the X200, but will try the X.org change tomorrow. Any ideas on the login issue?
If old Thinkpads are not really supported anymore, I will have to move on. As alternative OS, I have SOLYDXK running on a horrible old Compaq Presario CQ62 with 2 megs of ram. It performs nicely and it claims to be Foss. I can watch videos with no problem. Thanks for your help.
I tried inserting a new 20-intel.conf file using jedit.
It complained "Cannot save java io.IOException:Can't get a temporary path for two-stage save,"
I ran as sudo. No use. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Thanks.

Try sudoedit, executing in a terminal emulator:
$ SUDO_EDITOR=jedit sudoedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
To not always have to specify your favorite text editor, you can add such a line to ~/.bashrc (assuming you use GNU Bash, Trisquel's default shell):
export SUDO_EDITOR=jedit
It worked! Thanks Magic Banana!
A quick test shows that the system is no longer crashing upon opening Libre Office Writer. Also, the article about the Pope is no longer crashing. I have more testing to do and will report back. Thanks!
