VLC, Rhythmbox, Icedove crash MATE session

Screen goes black. I'm returned to the login screen.
Steps to reproduce VLC:
1. Download a YouTube video with yt-dlp.
2. Double click the video in Caja to open it in VLC.
Steps to reproduce Rhythmbox:
1. Go to Radio and click on a stream to play it.
Steps to reproduce Icedove:
1. Compose a long email.
2. Hit Send.
System info:
* Model: Lenovo ThinkPad X200s
* Boot firmware: GNU Boot
* OS: Trisquel 11 (MATE) with all updates applied
on a debian 12 main firmware=never computer, playing mp4 files in vlc would crash the system into login screen and close all programs. Specific actions in several other programs would also crash the system. I created and tested the mentioned file. It appears to work.

I have an X200 and Gnu Boot gives me problems like these, I have changed boot loader and the problems have disappeared.
