Hello to everyone.
Do you think it is possible for a VPN to combine the use of the Free (as in freedom) Software wireless N mini router by Thinkpenguin (model TPE-R1100) with the black pocket 4G LTE device by Huawei via the USB port? (See pictures). I don't have at the moment a VPN subscription yet. Thanks in advance for the attention.

You can talk directly with Chris, from ThinkPenguin in the Penguin Chat at Matrix: https://matrix.to/#/#penguin-chat:matrix.lrn.fm
Install nheko on Trisquel to access the Matrix room:
sudo apt install nheko
I recomend the instance unredacted.org (do not require email).
He also replies to GPG encrypted emails rather quickly, address and public key on the website.
Hi Piriponzolo. You can replace your Huawei 4G router with a more ethical 4G router with a Quectel EG25-G modem, on which you can install free firmware, if I'm not mistaken, this is the best possible modem today, it is freer than Librem5 (M818)
Hi, Sam-d16!
You are right, thanks, and for information only, I post the answer by ThinkPenguin.
''' Using a USB 4G modem with a router is a bit complicated, but this is even when purchase a modem that is good from us. Once you have the modem
the router has to be configured to work with it, which is not the default configuration.
Fortunately we do have a full solution that you can get that will just work, or if you like work with the TPE-R1100 you already have.
Here is what you'd need to order: one of our USB 4G modems: https://www.thinkpenguin.com/gnu-linux/usb-4g-lte-advanced-modem-gnu-linux-tpe-usb4g2us
And if you want to get the TPE-R1100 configured to work with our USB 4G modem above we have some services you can take advantage of here:
https://www.thinkpenguin.com/gnu-linux/librecmc-microsd-cards-and-upgrade-services
You'd need to select the Configuration w/ USB 4G Modem Support under where it says Configuration Options.
If you add these two items to your cart and checkout we'll send you an email with instructions for how to get us your TPE-R1100 router.
Basically you'd just ship it to us, we'll upgrade it to the latest release of libreCMC, and then configure it for use with our USB 4G
modem.
When you get it, you'd at most have to set an APN (we'll provide instructions) for your cellular provider and insert the SIM card
(assuming you've activated the SIM card already and the provider is AT&T/T-Mobile, or some other MVNO piggybacking off one of the two GSM
networks in the United States, or if you are outside the United States you will probably just need the APN set for any provider, as I think
it's mostly just US providers, and mostly just Verizon that is a problem).
There are directions that should mostly work (although they may need some slight tweaking for the TPE-R1100, you'd need to flash different
firmware, since these directions are mainly geared at some of the newer model routers) here, but as I said, they're lengthy so purchasing the
above products and services is recommended over trying to following these directions yourself:
