Weather location cannot be set in Trisquel mini applet

I cannot get the weather applet set to any location in Trisquel mini. The applet works fine in the full distro on my other machine. I'm currently using terminal with curl wttr.in/....
Any ideas on how to get the applet to work in mini?

I think it's a known problem with LXDE according to this post from a quick search.

For now, I'm using terminal. I've tried a couple of applications, but ended up removing them as I would prefer one that works in the panel. I'll keep looking...

The full version of Trisquel is using Weather Report 1.12.1
I'll be checking Synaptic on mini to see if I can install it.
