What is the disadvantages and advantages compare to other OS?
Besides the typical advantages of being an Ubuntu-derived GNU/Linux distro (which is a fine end-user OS that nowadays easily competes with Windows and Mac on every level), our distribution is 100% free software. That means you make no compromises on your freedoms and right to be a good neighbor to others by using Trisquel.
Exactly, the reason you would use Trisquel GNU/Linux vs. other other distros is a matter of freedom. Many proprietary programs are useful and powerful. However, we choose not to use them because they restrict our freedom.
Since Trisquel uses Ubuntu as a base while there are a few enhancements made, much of Trisquel under the hood comes from Ubuntu. However certain things are removed (such as recommendations to non-free add-ons like flash and the non-free repository).
That is the big advantage. This distro protects and defends your freedom while others do not.
"This distro protects and defends your freedom while others do not."
I think it's worth mentioning that Trisquel isn't the only fully free distribution out there. There's a list at http://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.html.
Yes, I guess I should add a clarification. When I say others do not I am referring to most other major distros. As Akirashinigami mentions there are a handful of other ones that do as well.
It is also worth mentioning, that Trisquel is one of the best 100% free distros out there. There are not all that many actually, if you take in account only distributions that are "alive" - well supported and with the respositories online.
Exactly. The other fully-free distros just fall short of the mark for use as an end-user desktop system. They're either more specialized (like dynebolic or Musix), non-international (Ututo and Venenux), dead (BLAG) or have no reliable release schedule (gNewSense).
Like it or not, Ubuntu is the best hope that GNU/Linux has for getting free software installed and regularly run on the largest number of home computers, and Google's Android platform is the same concept for smartphones. Ubuntu is extremely polished and user-friendly, but unfortunately it does not take an uncompromising stance for its users' freedoms, so we need a fully-free alternative to it, which Trisquel is.
