Where do you get your media from?

I had someone ask me about where to get music from and the first thought that came to mind was Libre.fm. I'm wondering where everyone else gets their media from (music, movies, etc) that has a creative commons/other copyleft license attached? I'm looking to gather a list and plan to make a short post on my personal website that I can point others to. If one of you already has an article or can point to one I would love to check it out.

For music, there is the famous http://jamendo.com website. But there is http://www.dogmazic.net/?lang=en too.

https://search.creativecommons.org allows to search several sites for works distributed under the terms of Creative Common licenses.

https://www.google.fr/advanced_search also allows to search for CC and other free licensed works (usage rights at the bottom of the page).

I was aware of jamendo, but I'd never heard of dogmazic and I really enjoy their look as well as the huge collection! Thanks!

You can also have some good music here http://www.auboutdufil.com/

The webmaster seems to take his music from here https://archive.org/

I like Jamendo a lot but I hate how javascript-heavy the site is.

I like to use the Free Music Archive.
Playing a song in-browser doesn't work without Flash, though, so you need to download a file or stream with VLC every time you wanna preview a song. Kind of annoying.

I see what you mean about Flash with this site. This was also another good suggestion. I'm quite pleased with the responses everyone's provided so far!

I already reported it to a member of the community, they are working on it ;-)

Would you look at that-- we both joined the Trisquel forums on the same day.
What a coincidence!

YouTube has had the option to specify videos as licensed under CC BY for some time, so you can find some libre videos there if you want to.

https://search.creativecommons.org allows to search those videos.

Thanks Sasaki, Pixabay is one of the main websites I use for CC images. One of the other websites I've found useful for public domain images is http://publicdomainarchive.com/free-stock-photos/

(that is downloaded by your browser without a confirmation message), to
block *only* the non-free JavaScript, you can install GNU IceCat which
has the GNU LibreJS addon enabled by default (you can actually keep
using other browsers like Abrowser to enjoy the Internet with all the
non-free JavaScript, *and* also have GNU IceCat running at the same time
in order to preserve your freedom when you want to). Ideally, it would
be better either to help these content providers to liberate their
JavaScript, or to not recommend them to the general public, and provide
the same contents through a provider that doesn't force society to use
non-free JavaScript. My last link is a public place where everyone can
download the contents from my OwnCloud account on OpenMailBox (GNU
LubreJS will still block the JavaScript thinking that it's non-free, but
it is indeed free since OwnCloud is free software).

Isn't there already a wiki page somewhere listing all that stuff ?

If it is not we could create it on wikipedia, or another helpful wiki.

Edit : this one ? https://wiki.creativecommons.org/wiki/Main_Page

Bandcamp is great, there is even an option to download music in OGG format!

+1 for Bandcamp.

Use a Google dork and search for
inurl:bandcamp.com AND "some rights reserved" AND "genre here"
or similar.

There's also a guy who has been running a CC music radio station for several years now that I always listen to. Rynothebearded.com he interviews CC artists and posts links and licenses to every song that's broadcast.
