The Gnome 2 versions of Trisquel were gorgeous and I'd like to see 8 and above have the same level of polish. Are the same people working on it? I ask because we should discuss looks and reference existing themes for inspiration in getting a modern and clean look.

I'm pretty sure you can just take Dagda's theme, slap a gtk3 folder into it, and call it a day........

Otherwise the choice is pretty scarce nowadays - themes can be based on Arc, Vertex/Ceti, Adwaita/Aldabra, and Numix - and I think that's about it?

Though we should wait for what Mint comes up with and maybe use theirs as a base........Zorin might also come up with a good theme.

Or imo, we can use Ubuntu MATE as the base.

You can grab an ISO of the latest Ubuntu MATE 16.04 alpha/beta at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-mate/releases/xenial/ if you want to test on the packages that Trisquel 8 will use. Of course you may want to do this in a virtual machine given that 16.04 is months away from a stable release.

What are your thoughts on flat icons? I've become a fan of the Numix (mainly bevel) series.

As long as they're not uniform shaped I think things will be fine.

The thing I actually try to avoid is a uniform icon theme, since an app not covered by the theme would stand out like a sore thumb. (examples of that include how quite a few MATE apps look like under non-MATE Faenza and how many app icons look odd when one uses the otherwise pretty-close-to-GOAT Sphere icon theme).
