https://www.tribler.org/

Why is making anonymous torrent systems difficult?
I suppose it is difficult, because tribler has been developed for some time and not gotten there.
My understanding is, tribler has made there own sharing system, like https://geti2p.net/en/. Are both software solutions not doing the same thing? Double effort for the same goal?
The familiar torrent system cannot be anonymous because revealing the ip is part of the torrent software? Vpn or tor does not change that property about the software?

They do. But sharing gigabytes of Hollywood movies/series through Tor is bad: you are turning the network slower for everyone else, in particular those who really have a good use of it (whistle blowers, journalists, political dissidents, etc.). Please use a VPN instead.

Torrenting via Tor is NOT anonymous. Torrenting with a VPN is not anonymous. Torrenting with I2P is absolutely anonymous and very very safe.

Expect slowly slow slowness though :///

Fair enough. But a VPN is enough to escape Hollywood lawyers making examples.

What does IP2 do differently that makes it safe?

So is the use of encryption what makes it safer than Tor for torrenting? To a layman the "tunnels" sound very similar to relay nodes. The applications also seem equally as socially important as Tor's. What makes using its resources to download videos more ethical?

I'll take a look at GNUnet too. Thanks.

The reason I2P is more safe and ethical than Tor for torrenting is the fact that it was built for that purpose- unlike Tor, which is primarily designed for standard client/server systems (with clearnet access being part of the system, unlike for I2P). They do share parts of their architecture- the tunnels in I2P serve a very similar purpose to Tor relays, although without the option to open one end to the clearnet- but trying to use Tor for filesharing causes issues:

*Large file sizes clog up the network for those whose lives depend on it (and those whose don't- but there's no way to distinguish);

*Loss of anonymity: in order to determine the fastest source of a file- part of the advantage of torrenting- most clients send your IP address as part of the packet, so using Tor is akin to sending a secret letter directly to the enemy

How does I2P avoid sending your IP address?

It doesn't avoid sending out your IP address per se- it has to, in order to allow the reply to be sent to you- but 'anonymizes' it through two techniques. Firstly, the tunnels serve to introduce distance between the sender and the receiver of a packet, preventing a single user from watching the full transit. Secondly, I2P makes every user a node by default. This, critically, makes for plausible deniability- an external observer, without watching a large part of the network, can't tell whether any packet you send is your own or someone else's.

Thank you.

>whistle blowers, journalists, political dissidents, etc.
I think they could use an anonymous torrent service too.

>Torrenting via Tor is NOT anonymous.
What I have read too. Can you tell why tor does not make the torrent system anonymous.
I read it was about the torrent client sending the ip addresses into the torrent
system.

>Torrenting with I2P is absolutely anonymous and very very safe.
I know about i2p. I installed it on a gnulinux computer. It ran.
I also tested browsing the internet through i2p. If I recall correctly downloading was
about 5kbs.
Can you run internet torrents in i2p? Or is i2p only for i2p's own torrent system? If you
can run internet torrents in i2p, then the torrent client software may expose your
ip address and by that negate the anonymity i2p was intended to provide?

Gnunet is a system of its own?
Can you access the internet through gnunet? Can you do it anonymously?
