Hi,
For security I'd like to sync my data using owncloud but without adding external repositories. Why owncloud-client (or owncloud command line tool) is not in the repositories?

It should be free in the upstream right?

Thanks you :)

Hey there!

I think it's a good policy to avoid 3rd party repos. I too believe owncloud is free. The reason why it's not included in the repos is because it wasn't included in ubuntu 12.04 which Trisquel 6 is based on. Looks like it will be in Trisquel 7,

Hi lembas :)

You right

I have searched and it seem like owncloud-client is in Trisquel 7

http://packages.trisquel.info/belenos/owncloud-client

So,

I just have to go on software center and set the option "find upgrades for every new releases" and do an upgrades, right?

thanks you.

I'm afraid it's not that simple. Your options include

*building the client yourself
*trying to install that package for 7 into 6
*finding a backport (e.g. a PPA)
*upgrading to the beta version of 7

I suggest you try building it yourself. I suppose somewhere on the owncloud webpage there are instructions how to do so. You're welcome.

The owncloud project provides its own ppa where you will find the owncloud client. Just follow the links for Desktop Client on owncloud.org - and don't be surprised if the Ubuntu packages come from an opensuse.org URL, that's because they are built using the Opensuse Build Service. If you trust owncloud for your data, I'm sure you can trust this ppa as it comes from the same team!

I prefer to use only official repo

Is different because the app is not running on my computer, I rent an owncloud services from a provider and even if I install owncloud on my server i will use the version of owncloud on the repositoires.

Thanks you anyway :)

I'm in the same situation. Renting ownCloud storage from a vendor providing it on Norwegian soil (protected by our own country laws).
However, there is no ownCloud client in Trisquel v6.

How did you solve this challenge of syncing to ownCloud?

Until now I have mounted the webdav disk and do cp -u to the disk, but I realy want an easier way of syncing instead of keep in mind to copy everything.

BTW: My vendor (ownCube) did not reccomend to use the owncloud client because it has to many bugs???

The last section of today's review of Ubuntu by DistroWatch explains it all.
