I am facing an issue with my desktop + when opening certain folders. The error I receive when attempting to open my home folder or desktop I receive an error "Could not open location 'file:///home/byron'. I also cannot see any of my of my files which were located on my desktop. This issue occurred as of yesterday.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Also, I cannot move any windows once I open an application nor can I exit the application as there is no 'x' symbol, so I need to ctrl+q to close the application.

Restart X.

sudo systemctl restart display-manager

this works only temporarily, it also does not fix the issue when trying to open folders i.e `No application is registered as handling this file`. also none of the menus on applications work either.

no luck I am afraid. it does log me out and restarts the the display-manager but the issue still persists. no 'x' to quite an application. show desktop button has an error "your window manager does not support the show desktop button, or you are not running a window manager".

what causes this issue? I don't remember breaking the display-manager (on purpose).

The original issue was probably caused by Marco the window manager not running (hence no window decoration).

marco --replace &
