Zotero (reference software) install, autoupdate

Below is how I installed Zotero, but please let me know if this method is good and how I make it autoupdate when I update the system with Update Manager.
First, I am pretty sure that Zotero is free (http://www.zotero.org/support/licensing) and I have seen it's browser add-on recommended on this forum. Unfortunately it is not available for installation through Add/Remove Applications.
This is how I installed it:
====
downloaded the tar file, then extracted in the folder /home/user/Zotero_linux-i686
Rightclicked on the extracted folder Zotero_linux-i686 and chose Open In Terminal
In the terminal typed ./run* to execute the shell script run-zotero.sh
=====
Well, this can't be the right way to install Zotero... While I can get it started with the ./run* I am not finding it in the list of installed applications, including in the directory /usr/share/applications
The code:
sudo apt-get install zotero
doesn't install it either...
Any tips on how to install it properly will be appreciated.
I wish Zotero were available through Add/Remove Applications...
Unfortunately this installs the firefox (Abrowser) add-on, but not the Zotero Stanalone.
Is it possible to have installed software that then doesn't appear in the list of installed applications in Add/Remove Applications or in Synaptic? I can run Zotero Standalone (by executing the shell script that came with the tar file), but it doesn't appear anywehre in the lisit of installed software. I guess that means it is installed. I just assumed that it will show up at least in Synaptic.
This is for future reference if anyone else interested in installing Zotero Standalone on Trisquel:
Zotero Standalone is already in the repositories of Debian unstable and should be in the Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) repositories. So it will eventually be available for Trisquel too.
