Spammers be gone

Beschreibung

I suggest implementing a "mark as spam" button near each post on the forum. After a post has gathered x spam marks, someone on the team should get an email, suggesting the deletion of said post. The post itself might also be added to the email, in order to simplify the decision.

Wouldn't spam be avoided completely by using captchas as are the comments on this forum?

Mo, 10/24/2011 - 05:15

Hardly completely, there is a growing number of actual people posting spam. And captchas make things harder for people with impaired vision.

I am moving this to critical priority. This problem is a fairly serious detriment to the community requiring active monitoring. The problem is also still recurring even if the offending accounts are being removed. If anyone has any objections please feel free to comment.

All current spammers removed, i'm changing ticket status, but feel free to reporting them here and change the status when a new spammer is found.

I'm triying to find a pattern, but i don't see one :(

The captcha is a bit harder now, hope it helps.

Sa, 01/28/2012 - 11:36

Many of those spammers have a name like xxxxxxxx19yy where yy is a number starting with a 7 or 8. And their posts contain awful lot of links (often same number of?). And contain words like viagra. Also they tend to resurrect old posts.

Of course if they are actual people, the captcha is useless and they can read this discussion and adapt to any rules. On the other hand the pattern in choosing usernames would suggest at least a semi-automatic process, could be a human is only used to solve the captcha.

IP blocking likely is ineffective since there are 500 million infected windoze machines that can be used, all with unique IP addys.

I guess the original suggestion of this bug to implement an easy reporting mechanism would be the best solution. Possibly the only solution as well.

Could the amount of posts be limited for users who are new, i.e. who haven't posted a number of good posts yet. And maybe even after that, one does not usually need to post 200 posts at once.

Hey, i've got an idea! This freak obviously wants to annoy us and interrupt whatever we're doing by chasing him around, so why don't we totally ignore him and let him play all he wants? Maybe he will get bored and start playing with his dick! Sometimes the answer is simpler than we might think.

And maybe just give newcomers a heads up and warning them that we've got an evil mascot... some sort of twisted "Where's Wally". Heck, we could make a betting website out of this and raise funds for the project: Trisquels Find Evil Wally!
