The package that won't go away.
Some software I am installing from the debian package archives requires a package called odbcinst1debian2. Attempting to install this package I discovered it conflicts with installed package odbcinst1debian1, which comes from the Trisquel repos. I attempted to remove the latter package in synaptic, and after learning I didn't need it successfully removed the package, then attempted to reinstall the first package only to get the same conflict message in gdebi. Confused, I restarted and attempted to install the first package, but got the same message. I tried having synaptic remove the config files, but it still would not install. I did a search or my hard drive and found a deb package of the second package in var/cache/apt/archive, which I deleted. After making sure it was in fact gone, I attempted once more to install the first package, only to have the red letters "Error: Conflicts with the installed package 'odbcinst1debian1'" veto my plans yet again, and twice more when I tried the sid and ubuntu maverick versions. I'm confused, what do I do?
