Proofreading GNU pages
When I read https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-hardware-designs.html I found the following outdated/partially wrong paragraph:
As of 2015, free software tools are available for programming the Lattice iCE40, a common model of FPGA, from input written in a hardware description language (HDL). It is also possible to compile C programs and run them on the Xilinx Spartan 6 LX9 FPGA with free tools, but those do not support HDL input. We recommend that you reject other FPGA models until they too are supported by free tools.
In 2023 we have free tools for some more models. Whats wrong in this case: It is not possible to compile C programs and run them on the Xilinx Spartan 6 LX9 FPGA.
New we have experimental free software for Xilinx Series 7, and some one is working on a libre FPGA design too.
I once wrote a mail to rms, but did not recieve a reply.
At the bottom of the page it says:
"Broken links and other corrections or suggestions can be sent to webmasters[at]gnu[dot]org".
They may be in a position to update or amend the page with your suggestions.
You're right. And to share with you, their webmasters are quick to respond to emails I sent them about correction and suggestion.
Sincerely yours,
Malsasa
