You can use terminal instead.

$ sudo passwd YourNewUsernameHere

PS: Are you using Trisquel 8 ??

ohhh why does the GUI have to suck...

re Version 8?! comment: I actually didnt know where to check the version in the OS (I assumed I had the latest version. No its seven (I could only find this: System Settings|Details which tells me its "gnome"3.8.4).

Mon, 10/03/2016 - 12:02

run the following command to find out the release:

$ lsb_release -a

Why does it have to be that hidden? Perhaps it may be seen on grub also (But I would only notice it if I am paying attention).... Microsoft pasters the name of its OS release all over the place... (you see it on Start, CtrlAltDel, system properties...).
