The 4.x LTS edition, codenamed Taranis, was released in September of 2010, released in July of 2008.
Taranis is an LTS (long term support) version, which will be supported until mid-2013, getting security updates until 2015.
Software versions and distro editions
This release is based on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and as always it contains just free software, including:- Common
- Linux-libre 2.6.32
- GNOME 2.28
- Xorg 7.5
- Standard edition
- OpenOffice.org 3.2
- Trisquel Web Browser 3.6
- Gimp 2.6
- Mini edition
The distro has four editions:
- Trisquel, for home use
- Trisquel Mini, for netbooks and old computers
- Trisquel Edu, for schools
- Trisquel Pro, for small enterprises
This version features a brand new look. Exaile has replaced Rhythmbox as the default music management application. For photo management, Shotwell has been added. Finally, the GTK-based Simple-Scan has replaced the old X11-based Xsane.
In this version, only English and Spanish languages are installed by default, to conserve disk space. Many other languages can still be installed later.
All of the editions support 32 and 64-bit architectures.
