Backporting A/V Software to Trisquel 9
This is a list of possible audio/visual software to add or backport to Trisquel 9. Items in bold have been built and tested on Trisquel 9. If two programs are redundant in function, please list them as one item (e.g. "Patchage || Patchmatrix").
You can help backport a package by finding and linking to a PPA or apt repository to use as a source.
- Ideally, find a PPA/apt repository for Ubuntu 18.04 (Bionic), maintained by the upstream developer or a credible third party, which reliably packages the latest version.
- If you can't find a PPA or apt repository for Ubuntu 18.04, see if the latest version of the package exists in Ubuntu 19.10 (Eoan). Backporting from Eoan might or might not be easy, depending on how well Trisquel 9 meets the dependency requirements.
- If there is no repository which packages the latest version for Ubuntu 18.04, and if the latest version is not in Ubuntu 19.10, look for a PPA, an apt repository, or another distro which packages the latest version, whether or not there is a guarantee that Trisquel 9 meets the dependency requirements.
Note that some apt repositories only have binary packages (.deb). We can't use such a repository as a source. We need source packages (.dsc) so that we can compile the package ourselves. Ubuntu's repositories and the PPAs on launchpad always have source packages. Other repositories often do, but not always.
