Replacing the cell network with like Oliva proposes WiFi is crucial. That's how JMP works. The JMP dev has another project, WOM, to expand the network with a radio mesh, also something Oliva proposes. I think adding the use of Tor as Oliva suggests should work fine with XMPP. I'm not sure whether latency will be a problem for SIP.
Oliva does mention JMP to note the relay bridge feature. He presents this as something that might make the new system appealing to cell carriers. I think it's actually much more important to us than them. In order for adoption of this new system to be realistic, compatibility with the old system is crucial in order to neutralize the network effect. Maybe the solution won't specifically be JMP/WOM, but whatever we go with should have a similar bridge to the cell network.

I'm too familiar with this Swedish university FTP. Every week I download jigdo templates for Debian Installer's weekly builds.
Now I'm using aria2 to download the video.
I use it regularly as well. Trisquel's file manager can handle remote file transfers such as the ftp protocol. Select "connect to server" and drag and drop or copy-paste.
