I'll be watching Alexandre Oliva's talk about Escaping the Surveillance Blackhole with Free Mobile Computing: https://debconf19.debconf.org/talks/73-escaping-the-surveillance-blackhole-with-free-mobile-computing/
The stream should be available from https://debconf19.debconf.org/schedule/venue/1/ when it starts at 13:30 BRT Tuesday July 23 2019.
You can use this link to convert that time to your local time zone:

Nice, Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much for the notice. It's still a few hours.
Replacing the cell network with like Oliva proposes WiFi is crucial. That's how JMP works. The JMP dev has another project, WOM, to expand the network with a radio mesh, also something Oliva proposes. I think adding the use of Tor as Oliva suggests should work fine with XMPP. I'm not sure whether latency will be a problem for SIP.
Oliva does mention JMP to note the relay bridge feature. He presents this as something that might make the new system appealing to cell carriers. I think it's actually much more important to us than them. In order for adoption of this new system to be realistic, compatibility with the old system is crucial in order to neutralize the network effect. Maybe the solution won't specifically be JMP/WOM, but whatever we go with should have a similar bridge to the cell network.
That was a very interesting presentation, thanks jxself. 0G communicators on a mesh network running phone calls through the Tor network - it does sound like something we could do. Link to Alexandre Oliva's 0G manifesto page: https://www.fsfla.org/ikiwiki/blogs/lxo/pub/0G

Thank you very much for NOT posting the video on YouTube. Your link is (temporarily still) accessible from China.
I tried to watch the live talk in the midnight (Shanghai time), but due to poor internet connection, I could only see a few slides.
No problem, the video is available from debian conf ftp server :)
Btw, if internet speed is a problem. There is also a low quality version[1](89mb).
I'm too familiar with this Swedish university FTP. Every week I download jigdo templates for Debian Installer's weekly builds.
Now I'm using aria2 to download the video.
I use it regularly as well. Trisquel's file manager can handle remote file transfers such as the ftp protocol. Select "connect to server" and drag and drop or copy-paste.
