Games?
Surely there are a lot of good games for which PIVs are too weak, aren't there?
What do you do with those?
My laptop is a Pentium M, which is a mobile version of a Pentium 4. I also have a disused desktop computer with a P4 inside it.
Pentium M? Having got one plugged to my TV, I guess that is underpowered - It won't decently run Popcorntime (with compositing enabled in Xfce, admittedly)!
I'm looking to replace it.
what specs?
If you're responding to me:
1GB of RAM and an Nvidia GeForce 6200 is all I can remember.
My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 8600 with 1 GB of RAM, a 1.5 GHz CPU, and a 40 GB HDD.
What distribution are you running?
Trisquel with LXDE de, midori browser, claws mail etc :-)
How do I copy and paste my desktop wall paper from my Trisquel PC to the forum comments?
Because this sounds like a troll post, I will respond with a troll reply.
Open GIMP, click on the menu option File-->Create-->Screenshot.
Check the radio button with the caption "Take a screenshot of the entire screen", then press the Snap button.
Use the menu option Image-->Scale Image... Make sure the unit of measure is in pixels, then enter 100 in the height box, with the constrain (the chains next to the number boxes) on. Click on the constrain to turn it off, and enter a number in the width box roughly double its present value, then click on the Scale button.
In GIMP 2.6, click on the menu option File-->Save As..., but in GIMP 2.8, click on the File-->Export... menu option instead.
Choose the filename and location to save to, then open the hidden list near the bottom of the window with the "Select File Type (By Extension)" caption. Near the top should be "ASCII Art". Click on it, then press Save. Make sure the selection box reads "Text File", then press Save.
Open the file in a text editor and paste it here.
ssd - that is one hell of a guide! :P
i make video in-case this is not a troll post
i messed up at the end of the video but it shows you how to do it

Might I add that SpiderOak isn't Free Software yet, at least, not entirely.
To quote SpiderOak themselves:
"We are steadily releasing many of the tools and libraries that we created while building SpiderOak as independent, generalized components. These can be found under the code section.
Our founders and engineers have a strong open source background and we consider a contributory relationship with the FOSS community as the normal course of business. Thus, our plan all along has been to make our entire client-side code base open source; however, as anyone who has worked with such issues knows, it is often not quite that simple.
We're currently investigating a number of licensing options, and do expect to make the SpiderOak client code open source in the not-distant future."
Yeah, I'm aware. The problem is, none of the alternatives listed at PRISM Break work for me.
Ideally, I'd choose ownCloud, but I don't have a desktop to act as a server. Also, I can't afford Kolab Now's paid service and git-annex is unworkable for a commandline-avoider like me.
It's not ideal, but it'll have to do for the time being.
Well, I have an ownCloud instance running. If you're interested, I can PM you the info.
dose it have the spyware?
or has this been removed from the ubuntu version?
I installed Unity Tweak Tool to disable all online contents from the Dash.
thats good
Wow Unity! that's nice can you tell me how install unity on my trisquel to look like yours?
Alij, I recommend you take a look at this:
Afterwards, I recommend you install Unity Tweak Tool so that you can disable the online features of the Dash, which are a privacy concern.
To install it, open the terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and type:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:freyja-dev/unity-tweak-tool-daily
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install unity-tweak-tool
sudo apt-get install unity-webapps-common
Done! You might want to remove the PPA after installing.
If you want Trisquel to look even more like Ubuntu beyond the Dash, open Tweaks (or maybe it's called System Settings in English) and change the Appearance to Ambiance and the icons to Ubuntu-mono-dark.
Let me know if it works for you.
Cheers.
Tomlukeywood, what motherboard are you using that supports 8 cores and (presumably) works with free software?
the motherboard uses a non-free bios but otherwise it works perfectly with libre software i got it here:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/asus-intel-p8z77-v-lx-with-smart-digi-power-socket-1155-motherboard-used-b91ny
i found it on new-egg too:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131824
one thing to note is the computer regularly causes powerful
blue Gama rays
don’t know why or why there blue or weather that’s possible but it looks cool!
Thanks. I'm wanting to build a desktop computer. It was out of stock at Newegg, but I found it on Ebay. I'm having second thoughts about it though. I don't want have a computer that requires me to wear a HAZMAT suit while using it. :P
Conclusion of the topic thus far:
Wow, you guys really have steroid-infused desktops! @_@
I didn't know the default DE could look *that* good!
Yes, the default desktop is very customizable: the same way one can create a compiz session with de Trisquel desktop, one can create a combination with other window managers like Trisquel + Xmonad.
Does using that theme make your computer as stable as Windows 3.1?
It IS stable... but probably MORE stable than Windows. :-D
Should code something in that makes it randomly blue screen or stop responding for like no reason. Other than that, very cool indeed.
No... I like it the way it is :-p
Wow, that's pure perversion :).
all those desktops they should like runaway desktops made by prisoners.
???
"Whelp due to HDD failure I had to reinstall my whole system today"
advice get another HDD bigger than your current one
then make a disk image of your main HDD onto that one
so that if your system fails you can restore it exactly
as it was before
example:
cd /media/other_HDD/
dd if=/dev/sda of=HDD.img
Just did that today. The HDD that failed came in the Thinkpad X201 I just bought so it needed to be replaced anyway. Luckily I did have all my important files backed up anyway so all I lost were a few wallpapers and a flyer I had been working on.
debian wheezy xfce looks exactly like that by default. If you like my desktop (look above) you can make it look like that in 3 minutes -> Greybird-master theme / Numix-master windows theme / elementary xfce icons theme and whisker menu.
cheers mangy!
Oh wow, is gNewSense finally switching to Gnome 3?
They took their time...
Like...
4 years...
Gee!
was i fooled there........hahahha..........!
Sure looked like one of my familiar local Marmots :)
Its's Gnome Version 3.4.2
but in *Fall Back Mode due to limited hardware on that box(1GB Ram)
You mean the version of Debian that's being replaced as stable?
Yes. Just like last time.
Cheers Tramp!
i'll try yours out on one of these rainy days...:)
pffff .... switched to gui, huh??
you're not a real hacker anymore!
