What's happening with GNU MediaGoblin?

Things don't look too healthy for MediaGoblin. Its main developer Chris Webber redirected a large part of his time into developing ActivityPub, which was time well spent, but since new media-hosting packages like PeerTube, Funkwhale, and PixelFed have implemented ActivityPub, it's kind of rendered MG obsolete. Chris seems to think so too, although he's too polite to say so, but according to this interview he's already planning a new media-hosting package:

Folks have been waiting a long time for MediaGoblin to implement AP, and join the fediverse:

... but there appears to have been no progress on that:

The news blog on the homepage hasn't been updated since 2016:

When I tried to see if there is any recent developer activity on the mailing list, all I got was
> "The requested URL /archive/html/mediagoblin-devel/ was not found on this server."
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/mediagoblin-devel/
... which kind of seems to sum things up. Can anyone tell me what's happening with MG? Is the project still alive? Are we going to see an AP implementation?

Wouldn't it be best to ask those questions of the project? I doubt those people hang out here on the Trisquel forums. :)
But hey maybe I'm wrong and they've secretly lurking all this time. :)

How? That's what I was trying to do when I looked for the mailing list. I'm pretty sure this question isn't off-topic for 'general free software talk', is it?

Maybe not, but who knows, and maybe someone here knows something? Also, anyone looking for news is more likely to find a forum post here in a web search than any conversation I might have on IRC or whatever.
