I can't find the patch the previous status implied. The vino package supplies the commands /usr/bin/vino-preferences and /usr/bin/vino-passwd which you can add to your menus with the Menu Editor in System Settings.

Please indicate if you want /usr/share/applications/vino-preferences.desktop adding to an already crowded User Settings area, which would be a feature request. Or if it is simply that you want vino settings present in the Menu Editor without adding it yourself?

First of all Thanks Leny2010!

The point is Vino doesn't show in usr/bin despite showing as installed via Synaptic PM & Add/Remove
then is non executable. This seeems to affect this specific package.I will check to see if in GNOME the issue
is identical.

The GnewSense version is 3-4.2-1+b1 VNC Server for Gnome is either in Applications Menu under Gnome or executable
in usr/bin under Xfce.

I understand that menus(or user settings) tend to become combersome so it would not be a featured request.
executable in usr/bin or Launched with Application Finder under XFCE environement would be fine.

Vino can be found
/usr/share/vino/
is non executable

Hi,

I think you've missed my point. In Trisquel 7.0 the Vino binaries in the package vino are:

/usr/bin/vino-preferences
/usr/bin/vino-passwd

And the server binary that you start is:

/usr/lib/vino/vino-server

Which I think under XFCE you would need to add to autostarted apps in settings or whatever. ISTR it's Settings / Settings Manager / Sessions and startup .[*]

The desktop settings file is

/usr/share/application/vino-preferences.desktop

And is not, by default, in System Settings or the Menu. It can be added manually to the latter. See here https://wiki.xfce.org/howto/customize-menu for how to do it in XFCE.

AFAICT the accompanying client is vinagre, which is present.

They're there, I installed the package and tested as far as my systems allow.

VNC is a poisonously insecure protocol because of the password length limits. So please use with great care, i.e. behind SSH if you can. Which will be why it is not provided by default in the already crowded System Settings nor Menu.

Are you saying e.g. in other distros there is a /usr/bin/vino command which starts the server or something. Please explain exactly what is missing and what it does.

dpkg -c /var/cache/apt/archive/[full package deb name]

Will find this info for you in future.

[*] EDIT - Yeah, look it's Application Autostart tab in the picture here http://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-session/preferences

First of all thanks a lot for your insights and help leny2010

I certainly will folow your recommendations + concerning SSH & more security.

The other distro i mentionded is the latest GnewSense Ucclia Alpha with a less recent package[3-4.2-1+b1 VNC Server for Gnome] obviously which ran out of the box from Applications > System tools > Preferences > Desktop Sharing or could be found & launched in XFCE usr/bin as*executable.

This lead me in error concerning Trisquel's Vino package.
Best regards.

Which I think means you'll be happy with me closing this as working as expected.
