all-in-one computer options

My son really likes to use the computers at the local library and I've been looking to replace my mac mini which runs Xubuntu (I'm not sure Trisquel would have the necessary drivers). I believe an all-in-one would be a good fit here at home but I'm having trouble identifying one that might be friendly to Free Software.
The ones at his library appear to be ASUS machines running "AWE" (http://www.awelearning.com/). I believe AWE might be a GNU/Linux variant because it has applications like tuxpaint installed, which my son immediately recognized from home.
I like ASUS gear but their line of machines is quite confusing. It appears as if System76 has a good all-in-one, but it may be a little out of my price range.
Is anyone running Trisquel on an all-in-one? Are there any known to be Free Software friendly?
I'm off to comb h-node for the time being.
Thanks!
I'm not sure about the System 76 machines, they are probably your closest bet at this point (Closed Bios/Firmware) but as you said the cost is a real issue.
I will look around however.
Side note : That Mac Mini should work fine so long as you don't need Wifi. Trisquel supports Mac hardware incredibly well including the camera on the Laptops. That said I am stuck on a Macbook fo the mean while because of costs and as far as non-free firmware goes it would have to be one of the worst offenders out there.
I'll have to sit down and try to get Trisquel installed some evening, then. I don't currently use the wifi with the mini, so that's good to know.
What about graphics issues? Does that sort of thing work out of the box?
Depends on what kind of GPU you have.
Intel integrated graphics (e.g. Intel GMA and Intel HD) work perfectly. Intel actually provides free/libre drivers for these.
Nvidia cards are hit-and-miss, since their free/libre software support depends on reverse-engineering. Many of them work really well, and some of them only partly work (e.g. missing 3-D support). Upgrading the kernel to get a newer version of Nouveau can sometimes help if you have problems.
AMD/ATI graphics are the worst. They generally work, but only in 2-D; 3-D requires a proprietary firmware blob. These GPUs should be avoided the most.
Based off the Macbook, the video drivers work perfectly fine for the Intel systems.
In relation to Nvidia, I have found that T7 works better than T6 simply due to more current Nouveau drivers.
As for the Wifi, Broadcom seem to be very low (if ever) at releasing Free drivers so an external USB adaptor is usually required - like the ones from ThinkPenguin or Tehnoetic are a great choice.
Hi friends, how are you?
I'd like buy an all-in-one computer but I can't find this type of machines in h-node :S
I only need the computer be able to support Trisquel, a wide screen (17" or more), a CD-DVD writer and latinamerican keyboard, that's all my requirements :) I don't want WiFi neither printing or additional features.
Anyone could give me a hand?
Thanks a lot

https://www.thinkpenguin.com/gnu-linux/penguin-pocket-wee-gnu-linux-desktop (you can select dvd-rw as option)
+ monitor
+ velcro (put velcro on the monitor and on the 'pocket wee', then just stick it to the back
~= all in one PC
:)
I think the post refers to All-in-one computers as those that have the motherboard behind the screen as as all relevant ports around the frame of the screen or behind, which rarely mean that they're portable.
The Pocket Wee is a type of Single-board computer without the screen.
I see this getting easily confused and have also been prone to do it in the past.
I would think so as well, but considering that the Mac Mini was mentioned, it's obvious that something like the Penguin Wee is what was meant.
I know that is what is being requested.
that is what the velcro is for!
In all seriousness. I do not see any downside in having a solution where you attach the mini to a normal monitor, compared to a traditional all in one solution where there is a slab of plastic covering those parts.
Actually I only see benefits in this setup as you can switch the parts as you like.
if you want a cheap option i know that this computer works with gnu/linux (and only libre software) very well as i own it

by default it comes with 512mb of ddr2 ram but you can cheaply upgrade it to 2gb ram which will speed it up alot
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=2gb+ddr2+ram&_from=R40|R40&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=2x+1gb+ddr2+laptop+ram&_sacat=0
a ssd would also help but its not necessary and a bit expensive

if you go on ebay with librejs it will tell you to enable javascript you can bypass this

If by "All-In-One" you mean a laptop, tablet, and (if you plug it into a monitor) desktop, then I have a model I use all the time.
I have two Fujitsu Lifebook P6300's- one I use as a desktop, and the other as a tablet/laptop. It works 100% out of the box with Trisquel.
By default, they come with 1GB DDR2 RAM, so I'd recommend upgrading to 2GB DDR2 RAM.
EDIT: I'm an idiot, sorry. >_<
I forgot the definition of "all-in-one" and got it confused with "tablet PC"... Sorry...
Thanks a lot for your replies guys.
I'm afraid I was not clear enough. I'm searchig for this kind of all-in-one computer:
But, of course, following the libre software principles and taking into account the compatibility with Trisquel GNU/Linux. I don't care about WiFi neither printers or other devices.
Could someone give me a suggestion.
Thanks again :)
