Hi Jason.
The topic was closed https://trisquel.info/en/forum/how-assemble-asus-kgpe-d16-yourself-0, so I opened a new one.
I wanted to know your opinion, please tell me how do you check motherboards before buying? Externally, these boards may look good, and even the seller may have a good rating, but after a month the computer may stop working and looking for the problem may turn out to be a very big problem.
I see that 99% of motherboards on Ebay are from China.
I also noticed that official FSF sellers such as https://shop.vikings.net/ or https://www.thinkpenguin.com/ refuse to sell these computers and even 3mdeb.com , https://blog.3mdeb.com/2022/2022-02-03-kgpe_d16_status/ does not want to sell these computers, they write that this is very old equipment, etc.

It seems to me that this is a BIG problem for ordinary users now and in the future. Buying a Talos 2 https://raptorcs.com/TALOSII/ for $ 5K $ with 4 cores is not reasonable, especially for a student or schoolchild ...

I continue my research, I found an interesting post, here is what libreleah Libreboot developer (16d ago) writes about ASUS KGPE-D16/D8

absolutely garbage machine, and was a total waste of time/money to ever put in libreboot, but you can make the d16 work. I do say *make* it work.

Also here on the forum I saw a negative experience using D8 ...

Perhaps Librem Mini (Intel Core i7-10510U)https://puri.sm/products/librem-mini/ or ASUS A88XM-E +A10-6800K with Coreboot https://doc.coreboot.org/mainboard/asus/a88xm-e.html and used Blackbird for $2500 will be the best solution in 2024.
