Desktop shortcuts

Hello, I suppose this isn't a major issue, but I am not able to delete the 3 default desktop shortcuts that came with my Trisquel 4.5.1. In the actual desktop folder these shortcuts do not appear, showing hidden files does not fix this either. I've even tried to sudo nautilus but I cannot find the shortcuts or delete them directly off my desktop. I am a very minimalistic user and I've always gone without using desktop shortcuts. Any idea how to do this?

(On a unrelated note, how do I enable the drivers for my nvidia GTX 260? I'm pretty sure there are some free ones that are used in other distros, but I can't find the option to manage this in trisquel. I just need to enable compositor.)

In a terminal, type gconf-editor, then go to apps/nautilus/desktop. You should be able to toggle the shortcut icons on or off.

I don't see GTX 260 listed in either h-node or FSF's list. IIRC Trisquel comes with the free nv driver, which should be on by default. However I don't see that card listed on nv's supported devices page at http://xorg.freedesktop.org/archive/X11R7.0/doc/html/nv.4.html#sect3

I do not understand your question about the video driver. Obviously one is working since you can see the Gnome desktop. Is it "vesa" instead of "nouveau"? Do you want to enable the experimental OpenGL capabilities by installing "libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental"?

I can see my desktop at full resolution, but desktop effects and compositor cannot be enabled.

Thanks akira for the tip.

Edit: Nevermind, my drivers were just fine. There was a problem with my metacity config that was preventing effects. All my problems have been fixed, thanks.

Installing libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental should suffice, but bear in
mind that the driver is experimental and hangs often on some cards.
