I experienced and tracked down a bug in the package xserver-xorg-input-joystick that causes mouse emulation to be broken.
I realize it's an obscure package, but I use it and I'd like input and opinions from anyone who's interested before I do anything else with the bug.
Does anyone else here use the Xorg joystick driver? Anyone know what's wrong with the affected code I pasted? How to fix it gracefully? Should I take it upstream?

I'd take this upstream since it should affect more than just Trisquel. Also they will likely suggest you test against the nightly builds over at Xorg Edgers to clarify the bug exists in their latest version:
