DuckDuckGo? Change to YaCy.

DuckDuckGo is non-free. YaCy is free. Please, delete all bad functions from browsers and change it with free. I will release my own browser soon (or not?).

As far as I know, my browser does not run any proprietary software (e.g., JavaScript) when searching the Web from https://duckduckgo.com/html

I do not execute the code to crawl the Web, order the results, etc. And I am not even sure that code is proprietary. If the company behind DuckDuckGo is the only user of that code, then it trivially is free software.

I want to release TorFree Browser.
- No DRM (if it is closed source, otherwise warning user "There is a DRM content.")
- Maximal security by default (disabled JS, cookies, safebrowsing is enabled, but not Google, my own website). Images… disable or not? Fully disabling, not partially.
- Windows 7 user agent… or "HIDDEN" or just not sending user agent if possible.
- FREEDOM: blocking non-free content with safebrowsing
- Anonymity
- Based on Tor Browser Bundle
- Compiler: GCC… stop. How GCC compiled if written on C?
- TorFree CA. Or other gratis EV CA in Tor network.

DRM always is proprietary software. Disabling JavaScript, sending an empty user agent, ... would make fingerprinting far easier, i.e., would work against the "anonymity" goal. "Safe Browsing" does not "block non-free content". It protects against malware, such as phishing thank to information from... Google: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-does-phishing-and-malware-protection-work

For anonymity, the Tor Browser is, today, the best. It is clear from what you write that you would not do better. To not execute proprietary JavaScript, an alternative to disabling JavaScript is the LibreJS extension. It is enabled by default in GNU IceCat, which also has its own 100% free add-on site. IceCat's default security and privacy are better than Firefox's too (HTTPS-Everywhere, SpyBlock, some fingerprinting countermeasures).

As for GCC, it can compile itself but other C++ compilers can compile it as well. That conceptually only pushes the problem further. However, the very first compiler for a language can be written in another language (including assembler) and there is the bootstrapping technique, which is very popular: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bootstrapping_(compilers)

Anyway, Firefox usually is compiled with GCC. And there would be no problem if it had to be compiled with another free software compiler (e.g., clang).

> Disabling JavaScript, sending an empty user agent

Sending an empty user agent would definitely make the fingerprinting easier. Disabling javascript on the contrary will make it much more difficult as your browser (provided it is a decent browser with decent settings) will suddenly send only the HTTP_ACCEPT Headers and the User Agent, along with your internal window screen resolution, if you accept cookies (which you should, for the session only) and if the donottrack header is enabled (leave it off, it will make you more trackable and it is a useless feature no ad-head is going to comply with). Everything I just said is true **only** if the study on fingerprinting done by the EFF is correct and not a pile of bs.

I will include GNU addons.
I will change default setting for maximal security.
I will modify SafeBrowsing & make FreeBrowsing mod (with database. First websites to block:
*google.com
*github.com (but free mirror (readonly code access only) will be available)
*nsa.gov (you must know why)
*microsoft.com (too)
*apple.com
*dvdcca.org (or not to block?)
nonfree.example.com (just for test)
*.yandex.*
yandex*
*introversion.co.uk (and other sites with Introversion Software)
*battle.net and *blizzard.com (too)
*.gov (or not?)
etc.
I maybe will develop a secret project for fighting non-free software. It is secret, do not ask info (I can tell info after connecting my VERY secure system).
Hint: what will happens if Internet will be non-free? We will finish using Internet.

Ever heard of "freedom of expression"?

You clearly show us, over and over, that you do not know what free software is (Internet is a network: it cannot be free or non-free) and that you know little about security and privacy.

Sorry, but what you're saying is completely twisted and confusing - I can not make any sense out of it, and I doubt that it's just because of a language problem.
Releasing Tor Browser (which is already released), non-free internet, blocking some websites, mysterious secrets you cannot tell....
it just blows my mind.
What do you actually want to say and why?

stas730 (non verificato)

Yes, my main language is Russian.
Release tor browser? My own version.
0. Block non-free websites
1. If the Internet is non-free (the non-free software installed to the largest Internet providers) and spying, we must to fight with the non-free software using my secret project.
I can tell info, but not now. I need to use very secure system over Tor, SSL, OTR/PGP and other security. My provider shouldn't receive more info. I talked with my friend using unencrypted chat, but I cannot publish my plans because provider can think "I'm just an idiot" now, but if i publish it and start development…
After some months you can write me an PM. I will send info how to contact me using encrypted chat.
My project will be released into Internet for fighting non-free software.
But I think, I don't need to trust people. They can ruin my life.
Hint: if non-free software > free software, we should not use a software at all… because free software can be destroyed by a non-free worm.

stas730 (non verificato)

We can block non-free websites using databases. Using "Report non-free website" button and just blocking popular non-free websites.
What is https://gnu.org license? CC-BY-ND? Free software or not?

So, in a crusade for free software, you want to censor gnu.org. That looks clever...

Will you realize that you do not know what free software is about? You do not even know what software is! A network, such as the as the Internet, is not software. A content, such as text/images/videos published on a website (or textures/models/sounds/music in a video game) is not software.

I thought you were just pretending to know how to program. However, querying "stas730" on https://duckduckgo.com/html/ (with no proprietary JavaScript, contrary to what you apparently claim in this thread), I got this as the first result: https://github.com/stas730

How ironic? GitHub. That "does not work without running nonfree JavaScript": https://www.gnu.org/software/repo-criteria-evaluation.html#GitHub

Worse: that page actually states that your two most recent "popular repositories" both deal with the proprietary game "World of Warcraft".

You are an impostor.

This is sort of off-topic (I agree with you completely), but:

I am not sure whether Mangos contains proprietary code, but if not, it could still be a good piece of software. The Mana World server was originally based on such a kind of software used to host private MMO servers.

This account is old. I'm not using this account now.
I will not support all freeing projects anymore. The computers are evil* because many people using non-free software. I think, I will finish using latest non-free software after learning programming. I must learn C, C++ and Assembler. Maybe, Qt. Then I will start developing my secret project.
You cannot send PM now. I cannot trust people, so I will not publish any more information about secret project.
I can publish info about freeing project. Just ask me.

It sounds like you have a sense of self-importance that probably isn't healthy.
Your secret project isn't special, and your grasp of the technology required to realize such a project isn't very strong.

I hope you already installed a coreboot/libreboot open/free software BIOS to your computer? You know, the default UEFI has plenty of security vulnerabilities, which could undermine your "VERY secret project" :P

And that your storage medium is encrypted. Who knows what back-doors can be found in HDD/SSD firmware?

Being offline doesn't protect you from exploitation of back-doors. If you've got any mission critical data, the only way to be safe is to ensure your no non-free software EVER handles it unencrypted.

If you trust only the certain websites, wouldn't it be easier to use a whitte list rather than black? You would be expanding your allowed sites list gradually. Less convenient, but much more secure because you can't just block everything bad - it is impossible! so block by default, and add "allow" as exception

Of course a whitelist would be more effective. Or you could take North Korea's approach: don't allow access to the Internet at all.

No one is going to choose to use a browser designed to restrict what websites you are allowed to visit, though.

I'm not sure how much can be trusted. I already know that some of the events have been mischaracterized which already made me wonder what else might be but now I see that the story itself of who did what is also changing. Example: Originally Leah accused Rubén of supposedly taking sides with the alleged bully and Leah called for him to be removed from the FSF for that reason; see http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/libreboot/2016-09/msg00053.html. Now she accuses him of "leaking" emails to the Executive Director. The story about who did what seems to be changing, which makes me question the storyteller even further.

Crack my own computer?
For crackers: do not destroy FSF/GNU websites. It is too much damage for free software for finishing using it. It's better to destroy NSA servers.
Destroying means deleting all files and crashing the server.

The Trisquel project is attacked by Libreboot, yes?
Which side is more right?
0. Libreboot. Crack FSF server. Lots of damage for free software.
1. FSF. Crack Libreboot server.
2. Be a double agent. Try to crack both FSF and Libreboot.
3. Do nothing. Wait.

stas730 (non verificato)

Libreboot attack FSF. Not crack. Some people are (might be) fired from FSF. It is because Libreboot.
I cannot now trust Libreboot. I need another free BIOS firmware.

Soon.to.be.Free

Iscritto: 07/03/2016

It is your decision not to trust the FSF, but please note that 'Libreboot' did not attack the FSF. The project's leader (Leah Rowe) made accusations against the FSF, which have thus far not been supported either way.

Furthermore, please note that the firings from the FSF had *absolutely nothing* to do with any part of Libreboot. Leah Rowe's friend was fired due to unknown events happening within the FSF, which almost certainly had anything to do with any GNU project.

In addition, the Libreboot software, being free, will remain just as trustworthy as before (if not, then I'm sure we'll all know quickly- just like the Ubuntu/Amazon saga). It appears it may separate into two strains (Libreboot and GNU Libreboot), but this just means you can pick a side if that should so satisfy you.

Otherwise, I suspect you may have trouble finding other free BIOS/UEFI implementations- especially if you're on x86.
