Emacs23 not starting on Trisquel 4.0 (or 4.0.1)

Hi all,

I am a recently new Trisquel user, I like the idea of the project :-)

After a succesfull installation of Trisquel-mini on a netbook, I decided
to install the "emacs23" package.

When I start emacs on the command line, I just get one message,
"Arithmetic Error", then the execution stops.

Which is quite surprising !
I didn't try the other versions of emacs for now however...

I read that Trisquel 4.0 had some problems solved in 4.0.1, so I would
like to be sure I am using Trisquel 4.0.1.

How can I check that ? The file /etc/lsb-release says "4.0". I think I
read that somewhere else too... However, I feel like I donwloaded and
used the "4.0.1" install image.

Can you give me a hint about that ?

Thanks in advance, and thanks for the job !

Regards,

Christophe S.

Once it's perfectly aimed, the flying arrow goes straight to its target.
Thus, don't worry when things go right.
There will be enough time to worry about if they go wrong.
Then, it's time to fire a new arrow towards another direction.
Don't sink. Adapt yourself ! The archer has to shoot accurately and
quickly.

"Yes, they are Elves," said Legolas; "and they say you breathe so loud they could shoot you in the dark."

Come to the IRC channel. Maybe we can help.

I was wondering if it was aimed to me...
Then I got it ! Maybe the signature below ;-)

Ok, thank you, I had to leave just after. I'll give it a try, when I'll
have some time ahead of me :)

See you,
Christophe

This is a known bug. The latest Ubuntu update won't work with LXDE:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/emacs23/+bug/684613

The workaround is to downgrade your emacs version. (I haven't done this myself yet, because I don't use my netbook very often.)
