Hi, I have been using Trisquel for a little, and it has worked well. But recently, I have been running out of storage on my root partition (/dev/vgtrisquel/root). Using the command "du" I have found that /var/log/kern.log and /var/log/syslog are huge (29G). I can clear them, but they just fill back up. According to some research I have done, the problem isn't the files, but the underlying issue that it is reporting. This is the error I am getting (many times per second):

I can't figuar

hey this wasn't ready, I thought "save" would save draft, not publish it. How can I delete these posts? Sorry for my mistake.

Just keep telling the details on following messages, I don't think we can edit the first post.

Historically huge syslog files are a sign of a faulty hardware.

Maybe a wireless card not being supported and filling up syslog?
You might like to check turning off some devices.

But he best idea is to check what is the content of the syslog file that would help determine the underlying issue.

Here is the code that is repeating. Besides the IRQ/MSI part, it seems to be something with radion graphics and drm. The computer is an Acer Aspire 5532, and to the best of my knowledge, the only thing on it that needs proprietary drivers is the 3d gpu acceleration.
My understanding is that trisquel just disables that feature.
So does anyone have any idea what the underlying issue is? Thanks so far for your help!

I just tried upgrading the kernel to the latest linux-libre version but the issue persists

Maybe some graphics card feature is enabled on the BIOS/UEFI triggering the event?

Please provide more info on you machine, the out put of the following commands could help:

  • lspci -nnk
  • sudo dmesg
  • cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Maybe you would like to open a ticket on the bug tracker under trisquel-packages.
Regards.

Hi, I got it all fixed. The issue was fixed with this command. The xfce default must have been wrong.
"xfwm4 --vblank=glx --replace"
It worked like that, so I changed the default vblank_mode.
thanks for all your time! Trisquel is awesome!
