Has anyone made a tweak to click a link, right click on a webpage or
anything and launch youtube-dl along with some switches and the link?

There are many ways to download videos from a Web page: https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/play-videos-without-using-flash
When it is an HTML5 video, then you only need to right-click on it and to save it. Add-ons such as "Unplug" and GreaseMonkey scripts such as "ViewTube" explicitly have buttons to download/get the video.

I think he means that if you click a link to a YT video in Abrowser or Icecat, it automatically launches youtube-dl instead of opening the YT web-page.
I don't know of any such extension, sorry.
