I think the real question here is how it will affect GNU/Linux users?

We will be fine as Linux kernel 4.4 will have full support for Skylake: http://www.infoworld.com/article/3021837/linux/whats-new-in-linux-44.html

You will have 4.4 by default with Trisquel 8 (as it will be based off of Ubuntu 16.04) or you can get it for Trisquel 7 via https://jxself.org/linux-libre/

I hope so, because the last thing i want is for them to undermine GNU/Linux. You can't trust big companies these days.

I honestly don't get the story. It sounds like a bullshit excuse for Microsoft to stop supporting old versions of Windows. I mean, they obviously have a version of Windows 7 working for this hardware now; what's stopping them from continuing to support it?

And anyway, even if they do have some legitimate reason for not further developing the Windows 7 kernel, our kernel is developed separately from everything else, so we shouldn't have a problem.

Well, as always the main drive is profit. Assuming all the versions of Windows are used as they are by default there is much more personal information to be gathered from users of 8.1 and especially 10 compared to the 7 and hence more money to make by selling personal info to anybody willing to pay for it.

I mean, read the privacy policy of Windows 7 and then read that of Windows 10 and the thing will suddenly get as clear as the bluest sky of deepest summer to you..

P.S: It is quite a boring but stunning read.. Highly recommended.

I hope Microsoft ceases to exist because of how badly their users are being mistreated.

The only way that is going to happen is if OEMs decide its profitable to preinstall GNU/Linux.Canonical never really got OEMs there sadly

They'll only cease to exist if Windows stops being installed by default on
computers. They will have to do something to really annoy the computer
manufacturers for that to happen.

Sometimes I ask myself ¿Why people use Windows?
Beacuse, you can´t compare it to GNU/Linux

By inertia, I think... WinCups is way inferior to GNU or BSD

However, you can also take the opportunity to add architectural interest to
your home with a new Impact windows grade - anything from simple sash windows
with more typical bay or bow windows.

Hurricane windows.
