The 16th International Free Software Forum (FISL) is over and many of the talks are now online at: http://schedule.fisl16.softwarelivre.org/

Most of them are in Portuguese but others are in English, from people such as John Maddog Hall and Karen Sandler :)

Not to worry! There are plenty of talks in English scattered across the event days (upper tabs). Among others, Matthew Garrett delivered an interesting talk on nonfree firmware and where we stand presently.

Thanks for sharing those!
Only watched one yet (http://hemingway.softwarelivre.org/fisl16/high/40t/sala_40t-high-201507111600.ogv) but I can say that I loved it :) Will watch more ASAP

I watched that one too :)

Free firmware is very very important, glad to see people talk about it. I also learned of the OpenSSD project, which looks interesting.

It made me lose some of the little confidence that I had in privacy and security in the digital world.
But more important it made me question the FSF decision to award the RYF to Gluglug laptops, seeing as they are still running so much proprietary code...
I wonder, what would be the safest way to make a computer (portable or not).

I remember Jacob Applebaum saying he flashes most of the firmware in his computers, I wonder if he just does with proprietary code or if he actually tries to write free alternatives for his own pcs....
