Free Software Sim Cards

Hi,
Does anyone know of a system where a sim-card can be attached to a Librebooted x200 running Trisquel?
Currently I have a jailbroken iPhone I use to tether internet but it's a closed-source loose end... I would prefer something free-er than this if anyone can assist. Essentially I want to only use FOSS and work everything off the x200
All of the adapters are still using proprietary modems. No real (or legal AFAIK) workaround.
GL-iNet makes some nice modem/router combos running OpenWRT and they recently came out with a 5G model. OpenWRT supports IMEI spoofing as well and has a very simple user interface and setup.
I have my modem/router connected to a LibreCMC router which supplies all the FOSS devices in my house with internet.

GL-iNet routeurs are sold with software based on OpenWRT but it is not OpenWRT. To run OpenWRT, it is necessary to flash OpenWRT and this is only possible on models listed on www.openwrt.org (i.e. not all models that GL-iNet pretend are running OpenWRT).

Which device do you use for LibreCMC? I use OpenVPN on a WNDR3800 but the throughput is less than 10 Mbits, with the new RYF routeur from Thinkpenguin I reach 66 DL/83 UL but this is still far behind my desktop (more than 200 each direction).
I'm also using the WNDR3800. It's not the fastest device, but it's one of the most free.
For VPN I just use Wireguard through the GL-iNet device.
I find the WNDR3800 pretty fast as long as I don't use openVPN with it.
Usually, throughput is better with Wireguard so I'll ask my VPN provider if they can support it (now they don't).
I also use OpenVPN with a GL-iNet device for internet access at my mother's. In this case, the cellular throughput is low anyway but it is enough to make phone calls via wifi while cellular only works near the window.
