Anybody know of Freedom certified hardware that you can currently buy? I know about ThinkPenguin but was wondering if there are any other manufacturers or models of certain companies that has hardware that is Freedom-certified. I know that RMS had a Lemote Yeeloong. But apparently they are not for sale anymore (very few soled apparently).
I have checked their site before. Thanks. I was wondering what ThinkPads felt like (in terms of the whole weorr trackapd setup).

If you want certification, then look here: https://www.fsf.org/resources/hw/endorsement/respects-your-freedom
If you just want hardware that works with a free system (but may contain proprietary BIOS or similar menaces), look here: https://h-node.org/
I am going to assume that BIOSes are not portable at all.
What do you mean by 'portable'?
If an application works on many platforms. Like if it works on this hardware. Will it work on this other peice of hardware.

the libreboot bios used on the thinkpads is fairly portable and is used on many different machines
also i have a thinkpad x200 and its great
its fast has a good display and is very portable
Oh okay. Lol soz. I asked you this on another thread. Sorry. Lol.
Thanks though.
Did you buy it from Gluglug?
i went to libreplanet 2015 and purchased it there
but the person who runs gluglug flashed it for me
so i got help from gluglug
Oh okay.
Did he flash the BIOS I am assuming?
Did it comes pre-installed with Trisquel GNU/Linux or any OS or no OS?
"Did he flash the BIOS I am assuming?"
yes
"Did it comes pre-installed with Trisquel GNU/Linux or any OS or no OS?"
the one from libreplanet i installed the os myself(they lent me a trisquel usb)
but the ones from gluglug have trisquel pre installed
this is from there website:
"This is a modified ThinkPad X200, with the libreboot firmware and Trisquel GNU/Linux-libre 7.0 LTS operating system pre-installed."
Okay. Thank you very much.
That's good to know. Although for security sakes and simple patanioia I preferbto wipe pre-installed stuff and do a full wipe of the drive (a secure erase) and then install my preferred distribution. That being neither Trisquel or gNewSense.
I was really thinking about getting this. I am happy that atleast it does not come with Windows installed!
javascript required just to display the website..
What is so bad about JavaScript. Like what can it do, in terms of using it maliciously.
Quite a lot: https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/javascript-trap.html
Just from litely reading that I am scared.
But JS is now disabled on my browser.
Thanks.
A good idea is to install LibreJS. It's a guarantee that you'll only run free JS: https://www.gnu.org/software/librejs/
That sounds awesome.
LibreJS is a great tool for ensuring ethical behavior, but keep in mind that even libre software may be malicious. Onpon wrote an article on why JavaScript is bad in general: https://onpon4.github.io/other/kill-js/
As a side note, LibreJS has caused a few websites to load very slowly for me. If you face similar issues, I recommend NoScript. It doesn't recognize libre scripts, but blocks all JS instead. Allow scripts with care!
