a good webpage on security/privacy

I remember a few years ago when I first started taking the issue seriously I had to collect bits of info on a large variety of websites - each aspect I wanted to learn brought me on different webpages. Most certainly the website that helped me a lot was eff.org. Those guys are great and their info is great!
But many things related to the topic(sec/priv) I had to search around and around the great maine..
I really would have enjoyed this webpage back then
https://securityinabox.org/
A lot of tips are reunited there on a single page and, though it is basic knowledge for me (now) for a newb it is a great source of information.
I found it a couple of days ago (I think it was linked on eff) and wonder how is it that I never stumbled upon it before.
Anyway if you are into sec, and don't already know plenty about it, it might help you!
cheers
This website is terrible. I would strongly advise against linking to it. It seems to focus on Windows, and more importantly, it recommends multiple proprietary programs:
- A proprietary anti-virus program
- A proprietary spyware removal program
- A proprietary "security suite"
- A proprietary filesystem encryption program
- A proprietary backup program
- A proprietary data recovery program
- Two proprietary Firefox add-ons
Heck, they seem to recommend more proprietary software than libre software!
Yes, proprietary code is terrible. I should have mentioned that it is for windows users mostly. They don't reccomend proprietary software - one of the first statements is that the guide is for windblowz (being that most people use that shitty os); but they say several times that you should switch to FOSS applications and if possible to gnu/linux. Too bad they give ubuntu as alternative to windblowz. But then again it was meant for the average dude, not for an enlightened trisquelian like yourself.
That being said, they use a simple language and examples and guides that can be easily understood by a newb - especially chapter 7 and 8 are very good info for a beginner.
And if you ignore the proprietary shajt their website is a good source of info that can be applied no matter what os you use.
