Hello,

Electrum suggests google authenticator for two-factor authentication but I'm not sure if it's free software any more. It seems that the free version doesn't get updates and the application at the Play store is a different newer proprietary one.

Well it sounds like you've answered your own question: Whether or not it is free software depends on which one you're using.

If you want one-time passwords there are other programs in F-Droid too. Search for "OTP".

Ok, maybe then it's better to change google authenticator with OTP in electrum if the first is outdated and OTP works with trustedcoin.
